Future of IT-BPM: Key Insights from IBPAP 2025

Last September 23–24, I had the chance to join the IBPAP International IT-BPM Summit 2025 at Okada Manila. For two days, industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators came together to ask one important question: How do we future-proof our industry while keeping people at the center of transformation?

At John Clements, this question resonates deeply. Whether it’s through AI-powered solutions like Uniphore’s Business AI platform or RecruitmentSmart’s SniperAI and Q for Recruitment, our mission is to help enterprises embrace innovation responsibly—while ensuring people remain at the heart of transformation.

Here are some of my biggest takeaways from the summit:

Applied Agentic AI: A Closer Look at Business Impact

Listening to Genardo Lousie Bonganay and Stacy Ong discuss agentic AI made me realize just how fast the world has shifted. Imagine this: ChatGPT hit 1 million users in a week, and 100 million in a month. That kind of adoption is unprecedented.

But it’s not just hype. Businesses are already seeing a 25% reduction in task completion time thanks to AI agents. The big message? This isn’t something to prepare for later. It’s here—and those who move early will shape the future of work.

At our company, we see this firsthand. We help clients adopt AI agents that guide employees, automate tasks, and improve decision-making. The speed of impact is undeniable.

Guardrails for Greatness: Responsible AI from the Ground Up

This panel—featuring USEC Anton Mauricio, Vishnu Raj, Gina Romero, and Arnab Ray—hit close to home. Everyone’s excited about AI, but the truth is: we can’t run faster than the rules we set for ourselves.

What stood out was how the panelists spoke not just as experts, but as students of AI. They acknowledged they’re still learning where the boundaries lie. The key point? Responsible AI isn’t about slowing down innovation—it’s about ensuring it endures.

That’s why we emphasize explainability, transparency, and governance in our client engagements. AI adoption isn’t just about capability—it’s about trust.

Rewiring the System: Game-Changing Ideas for a Future-Ready Workforce

This all-female panel—Larah Diaz Sta Maria, Chris Rosenthal, and Smithi Bhatt Deorah, moderated by Rain Tan—was a standout.

The conversation focused less on technology and more on people systems. What holds us back? Sometimes it’s outdated structures. Sometimes it’s a lack of inclusivity. Often, it’s not giving people space to innovate. The reminder was simple but powerful: future-ready companies bet on people first.

That’s why we invest in solutions like SniperAI, which helps recruiters find the right candidates faster, and Q for Recruitment, which acts as a co-pilot for hiring teams. When people thrive, organizations thrive.

Workshop: Future-Proofing Business with Trust, Security, and Sustainability

Dr. Rene Barcelona’s workshop on cybersecurity was eye-opening. He called it “invisible wars,” and that phrase stuck with me. AI-powered attacks are happening behind the scenes, and most of us won’t notice until it’s too late.

His message was clear: cybersecurity isn’t just IT’s job anymore—it’s everyone’s business. If we want to build trust and protect growth, we must treat security as a business enabler, not a cost center.

That’s why, in our engagements, we always highlight how AI solutions must go hand-in-hand with strong security and compliance frameworks. Without trust, transformation can’t scale.

Claiming Our Place in the Global Tech Value Chain

This panel with Sanjiv Gupta, Ambe Tierro, and Krishnamorthy was all about positioning. What signals tell the world we’re ready to claim a higher price?

For Ambe, the answer was simple: talent. With over 800,000 graduates each year, the Philippines’ edge has always been its people. What struck me most was how the conversation shifted—from cost competitiveness to value creation. It’s time we show that Filipinos can lead in AI, data, and digital—not just follow.

This aligns strongly with our work. By equipping Filipino professionals with cutting-edge AI tools—whether in sales, recruitment, or customer experience—we’re proving our talent can compete at the highest levels of innovation.

Fireside Chat with Mr. Eugene Acevedo

One of my personal highlights was the fireside chat with Mr. Eugene Acevedo, former CEO of RCBC. He reminded us that while tech can transform, it’s leadership with values that sustains.

His message was a timely reality check: don’t let the shine of AI blind us to what matters most—people, ethics, and long-term vision. It’s not just about building smarter companies; it’s about building stronger leaders.

That’s a principle we take seriously. Technology should augment leadership, not replace it.

Closing Reflections

In her closing remarks, Ahyee Campos brought us back to where it all started: contact centers. From there, grit and resilience fueled our growth into today’s diverse and high-value IT-BPM industry. Now, with AI in the picture, we’re standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the best in the world.

It was a fitting reminder that the future of IT-BPM isn’t just about AI or automation—it’s about how we combine technology with the Filipino spirit of adaptability and excellence.

My Key Takeaways

  • AI is here to stay—and it’s changing work faster than we think.
  • Guardrails build trust—responsible AI will separate lasting innovators from short-lived hype.
  • People matter most—inclusive, future-ready workforces drive transformation.
  • Cybersecurity is business-critical—trust and growth go hand in hand.
  • The Philippines’ edge is talent—and we’re ready to climb the global tech ladder.
  • Leadership with values wins—tech only matters when people remain at the core.

We left the summit with renewed conviction. The conversations reinforced that the Philippines is not just keeping pace—it is ready to lead in global tech services. As we continue helping clients harness AI, modernize their workforce, and build trust into transformation, we are proud to be part of shaping that future.
