Empowering Leaders: A Transformational Workshop at the Manila Polo Club

On July 8, 2025, the prestigious Manila Polo Club joined forces with the John Clements Leadership Institute to host a dynamic leadership development workshop. Rooted in Zenger Folkman’s 360-Degree Leadership Assessment, the event aimed to equip emerging leaders with actionable insights and transformative tools.

Held in the Club’s distinguished Turf Room, the workshop brought together a promising cohort of emerging leaders for a day of reflection, analysis, and dialogue. The goal: to strengthen leadership capabilities and unlock untapped potential.

Guided by Expertise: Sir Tully Moss Leads the Way

At the helm was Sir Tully Moss, a seasoned coach and one of the premier facilitators from John Clements Consultants Inc. With decades of experience, he delivered insights that made the learning both accessible and impactful.

Tully distilled the principles of the Zenger Folkman methodology, bridging theory with real-world application. His guidance created an environment where ideas flowed with clarity and relevance.

Laying the Groundwork: Core Insights That Spark Growth

The session began with a roadmap outlining key principles and concepts. Early discussions emphasized several vital insights:

  • Good is not extraordinary. Competence and excellence are distinct, and recognizing that difference is essential for growth.
  • Perfection isn’t the goal. Leaders should amplify their strengths rather than obsess over minor flaws. Momentum comes from leveraging unique value.
  • Perception shapes impact. Understanding how others view you is crucial. Self-awareness and external feedback work together to shape leadership identity.

These themes challenged participants to reflect deeply on their roles and how they show up within their teams and organizations.

From Data to Direction: Making Sense of the 360 Assessment

A significant portion of the workshop focused on interpreting the 360-Degree Leadership Assessment results. Participants used tools like the Participant Guide to understand feedback from colleagues, direct reports, and supervisors.

Although the Zenger Folkman framework is backed by rigorous research, the session emphasized that the real value lies in how individuals act on the insights. Data is a starting point—not a verdict.

Strengths, Flaws, and the Path Forward

The workshop highlighted the importance of building on leadership strengths. Presented data — through percentiles, benchmarks, and rankings — reinforced that strengths are the most effective levers for developing leadership excellence. They have time, energy, and development efforts should be focused.

At the same time, the session acknowledged that not all weaknesses are equal. Particular attention was given to identifying fatal flaws — specific behaviors or traits that, if unaddressed, can significantly undermine leadership credibility and performance. These require direct and strategic attention.

Participants were also introduced to the Extraordinary Leader model, a tool that reinforces the importance of intentional development, helping leaders understand how to move from average to outstanding through focused action.

Another essential learning centered on feedback — not as criticism, but as a gift. The session reframed feedback as a developmental asset, encouraging participants to receive it with openness and use it as a guide for purposeful growth.

Diverse Journeys, Shared Goals

Attendees were divided into two groups:

  • Batch 1: Already completed the 360-Degree Assessment
  • Batch 2: Preparing to undergo the process

Despite being at different stages, both groups shared a common goal: to deepen their understanding of leadership and commit to personal and professional growth. The session offered practical guidance on navigating the assessment and using it effectively.

Closing Reflections: Leadership as a Lifelong Discipline

This workshop offered more than just a learning experience—it marked a milestone in each participant’s leadership journey. Using Zenger Folkman’s research-based assessment, attendees explored their strengths, confronted blind spots, and embraced feedback with intention.

In today’s ever-evolving world, leaders face constant challenges. The insights they gained serve as a compass, guiding them toward growth through deliberate effort, honest reflection, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

The 360-Degree Assessment is not just a tool—it’s a catalyst. It empowers leaders to take ownership of their development and lead with clarity, courage, and purpose.
