The People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) officially launched the PMAP Awards Showcase 1. The event spotlighted compelling stories of innovation, purpose, and people empowerment. Chaired by Maribel V. Umali, FPM, the session featured HR leaders who are reshaping the future of work through sustainability, technology, and heart-led leadership.
Tech-Enabled, Human-Centered Transformation
Atty. Juan Alfonso Suarez, Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of EastWest Bank, introduced their People Advantage Gameplan: People Experience Made Easy. This strategy blends technology enablement with authentic human connection.
“If you want sustainable HR strategies, you have to enable them with tech, build insight with data, and touch the heart through human connection,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of personal relevance in the workplace:
“Your work should be a reflection of who you are, and your legacy in the organization.”
Hope and Livelihood Through Education
Carlos Fedelino Valencia, VP for HRD of Far Eastern University, shared the impact of Project HOPE and Bread of Hope. These initiatives empower persons deprived of liberty by providing livelihood opportunities and life skills.
“This is a story of hope and perseverance,” Valencia noted. “Our goal is not just to help, but to create projects that sustain themselves — giving people purpose, self-esteem, and a chance to live productively.”
Purpose-Driven Culture in Action
Ted Belza, VP for Human Capital Management of Golden ABC, Inc., presented GABC Days. This company-wide initiative reinforces a culture grounded in purpose and shared values.
“It’s more than an event — it’s how we ground our people in purpose and align everyone toward shared direction,” Belza explained.
Human-Led, AI-Powered Workplaces
Kislay Chandra, COO of Sprout Solutions, discussed the role of technology and AI in the workplace. He emphasized that AI should amplify human potential, not replace it.
“We believe in being human-led and AI-powered — not the other way around. AI should amplify human potential,” Chandra said.
Sustaining People and Communities
Cheryll Ruth Agsaoay, SVP and Group Head for Human Resources of SM Supermalls, showcased how SM’s people programs have evolved alongside its sustainability efforts. Her presentation demonstrated that meaningful initiatives could grow while keeping communities at the heart of progress.
A Call to Lead with Purpose
The showcase delivered a clear message. Sustainable HR is not merely about policies or programs. It’s about purpose, innovation, and compassion that leave a lasting impact on people and the planet.
