The Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) hosted its April 2025 General Membership Meeting with the timely and highly relevant theme, “Ensuring an Honest, Orderly, and Peaceful Election.” Held on April 2 at Shangri-La The Fort, the event featured Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman George Dela Cruz, who presented key innovations, strategies, and policy directions for the upcoming Philippine national and local elections.
COMELEC’s Commitment to Transparent and Secure Elections
Chairman Dela Cruz emphasized COMELEC’s unwavering commitment to delivering transparent, inclusive, and secure elections. He outlined a robust lineup of technological innovations for Elections 2025, including enhanced automated election systems, upgraded vote-counting machines, and more secure digital transmission infrastructure. These improvements are designed to boost accuracy, speed up results, and reduce the margin for error—key priorities in restoring and sustaining public trust in the electoral process.
Innovations for Inclusion and Accessibility
A major highlight was the implementation of biometric voter verification, which strengthens identity validation and helps prevent election fraud. Additionally, the Commission is introducing mobile-accessible voter tools for overseas registered voters to enable easier voting and provide real-time precinct information and updates. New systems are also being developed for persons with disabilities, senior citizens, and voters in geographically isolated areas, underscoring COMELEC’s push for inclusive and accessible elections. These efforts include an optional exclusive time slot from 5 to 7 a.m. and partnerships with malls for mall voting.
Addressing Emerging Electoral Challenges
The Chairman also addressed pressing electoral challenges, including cybersecurity threats, the rise of AI-driven disinformation, and the continued fight against vote-buying and political violence. He noted that the Commission is working closely with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), law enforcement agencies, and technology platforms to strengthen digital security and combat online misinformation. Chairman Dela Cruz also underscored the need for sustained voter education campaigns to promote critical thinking and informed decision-making among the electorate.
Open Dialogue with the Private Sector
During the interactive Q&A session, MAP members actively engaged Chairman Dela Cruz on topics such as the transparency of the vote-counting process, digital safeguards, and the role of media and watchdog organizations in election monitoring. Participants voiced support for increased private sector involvement in non-partisan civic initiatives, emphasizing that a credible election system requires a whole-of-society approach.
A Call to Action for Clean and Credible Elections
In his closing message, Chairman Dela Cruz called on business leaders and civil society groups to become active partners in advancing electoral integrity. He stressed that ensuring clean and peaceful elections is not only a government responsibility but a shared national duty, critical to upholding democracy, good governance, and long-term national development.
MAP’s Continuing Role in Nation-Building
The session reaffirmed MAP’s role as a catalyst for good governance and institutional reform. As the country moves closer to the Philippine elections in May 2025, MAP stands with COMELEC and the Filipino people in the pursuit of an electoral process that is honest, orderly, peaceful, and truly representative of the people’s will.
