Let’s Travel to España: A JCCI-EDI Sales Conference

JCCI and EDI had a festive and flavorful sales conference for the fifth month of 2023. The gathering, organized by Staffbuilders Asia, had a pronounced Spanish theme, with employees and guests being greeted by colorful streamers overhead and floral tableaus set along the far wall. The hosts and audience were encouraged to come dressed in vibrant attires that could match the conference’s motif. Due to the shared history between Spain and the Philippines, a great number of those assembled were able to accommodate.

Ice Breaker

The morning began with a short game, where people were quizzed on Spanish words they were familiar with. This led to a number of revelations of how many Spanish words and phrases existed in the Filipino vocabulary, such as demasiado and ‘di masyado. This association between Spanish and Filipino cultures also prompted the organizers to request those presenting to take up a unique challenge. Each person who stepped in to present had to preface their findings, sales reports and suggested milestones with a short description as to how they’ve crossed paths with Spanish influences in their lives. Some talked about food, others about their religion, and a few could even trace their lineages back to find an outright Spanish ancestor. Despite the centuries-long history of colonialism ended barely over a hundred years before, these recollections were free from any tension or resentment.

Investment Road Show In Madrid

After a number of teams finished their presentations, the President with the EVP of EDI-Staffbuilders International (a subsidiary firm of John Clements Consultants) – Cesar Averia, Jr. and Edgar Beltran – shared their learnings from the recently concluded Investment Road Show in Madrid. They talked about how these once interlocked, now separated, nations were faring in a number of respects, highlighting how the Philippines had approximately thrice the population of Spain, and how despite that, their GDP growth rates were roughly tied at 5.7% Annual Change and 5.5% Annual Change respectively. The segment concluded with information on ongoing and potential investment opportunities and business deals between the countries.

The catering involved glasses of sweet milk tea, individual cases of paella, and other Spanish delicacies that attendees indulged in throughout the morning. Flamenco dancers strode in, forms weaving about the room to a rich and powerful musical score, the clapping of their castanets followed by the applause of the attendees.  New hires, including interns and probationary employees, were called up to introduce themselves and display an interesting facet of themselves or their talent; this usually involved some light karaoke across a number of genres.
