Reflections on the John Clements New Managers Program

A Transformative Leadership Experience

The John Clements New Managers Program was my first formal leadership training. Like many professionals who began their careers during the pandemic, much of my growth happened behind a screen. While remote learning taught me a lot, this program was my first opportunity to connect personally and meaningfully with peers across industries.

Learning from Seasoned Leaders

We had the privilege of learning from exceptional session masters who shared lived experiences rather than just theories.

Dr. Grace Alcid emphasized that being a manager isn’t about having all the answers but about asking the right questions, coaching with care, and fostering strong relationships. Her insights helped me understand how influence is earned and how managing up and down requires presence, empathy, and intention.

Mr. Dondi Mapa bridged the gap between leadership mindset and practical application. His guidance on performance, communication, and delegation—using tools like the Eisenhower Matrix and Getting Things Done method—made leadership strategies immediately useful.

Ms. Tushima Kumar provided valuable perspectives on leading multicultural teams. Her global experience underscored the importance of cultural awareness, listening, and earning trust across differences.

Conversations That Broadened Perspective

The program wouldn’t have been the same without my fellow participants. I appreciated the diverse insights from FTW alumni with data-driven backgrounds, HR professionals from John Clements and EDI Staffbuilders, and a Khan Academy representative who shared perspectives from the startup world. Every conversation stretched my thinking, making discussions dynamic and engaging.

Designed for Real-World Growth

Beyond the sessions, we engaged in case studies, group discussions, and critical thinking exercises. The curated learning materials remained valuable even after the program ended. I was able to consult Dr. Grace on a specific topic, applying her advice to see tangible improvements in my leadership approach.

A standout experience was the Action Learning Project. Our Medilink Network, Inc. team partnered with Ms. Denise Fabella of Khan Academy to develop a proposal addressing a real business challenge. This exercise reinforced practical application, something I will now seek in future leadership programs.

Growth Beyond Frameworks

This program offered more than frameworks and tools—it provided clarity on the leader I want to become and introduced me to a community committed to continuous growth. I’m incredibly grateful to our CEO, Ms. Esther Go, for the opportunity to participate in an experience that will shape my leadership journey for years to come.
