  • A Memorable Celebration on the Greens: Reflections on the 8th Annual Golf Tournament for Indian Independence

The 8th Indian Independence Day Friendship Golf Tournament, held on August 16, 2024, at the prestigious Canlubang Golf and Country Club, was a testament to the perfect blend of camaraderie, competition, and cultural pride that this event symbolizes. Congratulations to Pushkar Misra and HGS for another successful event!

As a seasoned participant—this being my fourth consecutive year—I can confidently say that this tournament continues to be a highlight of my golfing calendar. I also had the pleasure of sharing the experience with my colleagues Carol Dominguez, Carlo Lao, and Neil Binalla, who, like me, have been loyal participants in this event.

Reflecting on this year’s event, I can’t help but smile at the consistent streak of good fortune that has graced me on these greens. Winning the runner-up trophy in the ladies’ division was certainly a proud moment. What makes this event particularly special is that every year, without fail, I’ve walked away with both a trophy and a raffle item. Indian golf seems to have a special fondness for me, and I’m more than happy to reciprocate!

Just like in previous years, this year’s tournament was a resounding success, attracting a large number of participants despite being a paid event. With 117 players in attendance, it was not just a day of golf but also an excellent networking opportunity. A unique feature of Indian golf events is the formation of mixed teams comprising Indian and Filipino golfers. This year, the Filipino team emerged victorious once again, adding an extra layer of excitement and friendly rivalry to the day.

The event was well-coordinated, with a dedicated event manager ensuring everything ran smoothly. Given the number of participants, this was no small feat and greatly contributed to maintaining order and enhancing the overall experience. The abundance of prizes added another level of excitement.

A personal highlight for me was the Indian cuisine. It’s always a pleasure to indulge in the rich, authentic flavors, especially while celebrating Indian Independence. The variety and depth of the dishes added a delightful cultural touch to the day, making the experience not just about the sport, but also about embracing and celebrating Indian heritage.

In a world where we often rush through experiences, this tournament serves as a beautiful reminder to slow down, savor the moments, connect with fellow enthusiasts, and celebrate milestones—both personal and communal. As I look forward to next year’s event, I do so with a sense of gratitude and anticipation, knowing that the Indian Independence Day Friendship Golf Tournament is not just another competition but a cherished tradition that I’m proud to be part of.

Here’s to more swings, more wins, and perhaps a few more lucky raffle draws in the years to come!
