When Talent Meets the Canvas

It was three in the afternoon when we began our activity—a special session designed to bring recruiters together from different divisions of John Clements Consultants and EDI Staffbuilders International. As part of the Outsourcing Division, we had the privilege of managing the event, ensuring everything was ready to create not just an engaging activity but also a meaningful experience for everyone involved.

Setting the Stage for Creativity

The atmosphere was lighthearted. We prepared painting materials for each participant and provided small snacks to give everyone a little energy boost and spark a cheerful environment.

Before we picked up our brushes, we listened to an inspiring talk from our respected Executive Vice President, Ms. Grace Sorongon. She shared thoughtful advice and valuable updates on our recruiters’ performance. Her words reminded us of our responsibilities and encouraged us to embrace growth and continuous improvement. It was the perfect way to transition into the creative part of the session—grounding us with perspective before letting our imaginations flow freely onto the canvas.

Painting, Laughing, Connecting

As the painting session began, the room instantly filled with excitement. Recruiters who were usually focused on calls, interviews, and reports were suddenly smiling, laughing, and mixing colors on their palettes. It was refreshing to see everyone step away from their day-to-day roles and explore a different side of themselves. The snacks added to the lively atmosphere, making the whole experience feel less like an event and more like a casual, friendly gathering.

Creativity Beyond the Canvas

While observing the session, I realized the activity wasn’t simply about painting strokes or competing for the “best” artwork. It was about expression, teamwork, and the reminder that creativity lives within each of us—even in roles that demand structure and precision. The simple act of holding a brush helped us let go of stress, think outside the box, and discover that creativity has no boundaries. Some participants painted with bold colors, others with fine details, but each canvas told a story of personality, mood, and individuality.

Celebrating Expression, Not Perfection

One of the highlights was recognizing the best “painter” at the end of the session. While it was fun to celebrate someone’s creativity, the real reward came from the shared experience. We invited Mr. Mario Biscocho, Senior Vice President of Enterprise Sales, to help the committee select the best painter.

Everyone left the venue with lighter hearts, deeper connections, and smiles that showed how much they enjoyed stepping into a different world—even just for an afternoon. In many ways, the event proved that art can bridge gaps, break routines, and allow people to connect beyond work titles and performance metrics.

What We Learned

Reflecting on this activity, my key takeaway is that creativity plays a vital role in human connection and well-being. In HR and recruitment, we often focus on performance, deadlines, and meeting targets. However, this session reminded me that people thrive when given space to express themselves. Exploring creativity not only relieves stress but also helps us approach work with renewed energy and fresh ideas. It showed me the importance of balance: while we manage talents professionally, we also need to nurture the human side of ourselves and our teams.

The Human Side of Team Building

“When Talent Meets the Canvas” was more than just a team activity. It reminded us that behind every recruiter is an individual capable of more than the job title suggests. And sometimes, the simplest moments—like painting, sharing snacks, and laughing together—leave the biggest impact.

Team building doesn’t always have to revolve around numbers and targets. Sometimes, it’s about sparking creativity and connection.
