Experiencing PhilHealth YAKAP: A Meaningful Step Toward Preventive Care

I joined the PhilHealth YAKAP Program out of curiosity. When I first heard about it, I was genuinely surprised that PhilHealth already has a program like this. Like most people, I used to think of PhilHealth mainly as something you rely on only during hospitalization. I wanted to see for myself what this program really offers and whether it would make a difference in a practical, day-to-day way.

Accessible Care in the Workplace

The activity was conducted in partnership with FTCC Medical Clinic in Mandaluyong, an accredited PhilHealth provider. What immediately stood out was accessibility. Having the services brought directly into our workplace made it easy to participate without adjusting my work schedule. From the start, the setup felt employee-friendly, organized, and thoughtfully planned.

Keeping Membership Records Updated

My experience began with reviewing and updating my PhilHealth membership records. While this may seem like a minor step, it gave me peace of mind knowing that my information is accurate and up to date. This simple process removed any uncertainty about potential issues when using my benefits in the future and highlighted how preventive administrative tasks can make a real difference.

A Moment of Reflection Through the First Patient Encounter

The First Patient Encounter (FPE) was one of the most reflective moments for me. Going through vital signs monitoring, basic health profiling, and risk assessment made me realize how often we put our health aside because of work and daily responsibilities. That short but thorough assessment gave me a clearer picture of my current health status and reminded me how important preventive care is even for those of us who feel healthy.

A Thoughtful and Reassuring Medical Consultation

I also had the opportunity to consult a doctor through a free consultation. Unlike rushed clinic visits, this experience felt personal and thorough. The doctor took time to listen, explain, and answer questions. Knowing that everything was properly documented in a PhilHealth-accredited system gave me confidence in the quality and continuity of care.

The Real Impact of Free Maintenance Medicines

The most impactful part of my experience, however, was receiving free medicines under the PhilHealth GAMOT list. I was given free medicine for my daily maintenance, and this made a significant difference in my daily life. Makakatipid talaga ako sa pagbili ng gamot, especially since my maintenance medicines usually cost me more than PHP 2,000 every semi-monthly period.

For someone who relies on daily medication, having access to free medicines through PhilHealth was a huge relief and a tangible form of support. It wasn’t just a benefit on paper—I immediately felt the positive impact.

Encouragement Toward Preventive Testing

Learning that the program also covers selected laboratory and diagnostic tests further reinforced the preventive focus. Knowing that these tests are available and free encouraged me to be more proactive in monitoring my health instead of waiting for issues to arise.

Rethinking PhilHealth as a Preventive Partner

Overall, my experience with the PhilHealth YAKAP Program was eye-opening and reassuring. It changed my perspective on PhilHealth, not only as support during emergencies but as a partner in preventive care. I also want to express my sincere thanks to our HR Team for organizing this program and making it accessible to employees. Initiatives like this reflect genuine care for employee well-being, and I truly appreciate the effort that went into bringing these meaningful services to the workplace.

A Personal Recommendation

I highly encourage everyone to take advantage of the PhilHealth YAKAP Program. Based on my personal experience, it is worth your time and can make a real difference in both your health and your daily life.
