Exploring Mumbai in 2025: A Fusion of Tradition, Innovation, and Economic Power

Last February 23, 2025, our CEO, Carol Dominguez, EVP, Grace Sorongon, Group Managing Consultant, Roger Santos, and I packed our bags (and our appetites) and flew to Mumbai for the NASSCOM Technology & Leadership Forum 2025 (NTLF 2025). We arrived a day early to soak in the sights, savor the cuisine, and, of course, indulge in a little shopping spree in Mumbai’s fashion and accessories markets. After all, when in India, why not return home with a suitcase full of silk scarves and statement jewelry?

The Economic Powerhouse

Home to over 20 million people, Mumbai is the beating heart of India’s economy. It houses the Bombay Stock Exchange, major corporate headquarters, and serves as a global hub for fintech, banking, and technology. If New York had a spicy, Bollywood-loving cousin, it would be Mumbai. In 2025, the city continues to attract international investors, proving that its blend of business acumen and cultural charm is simply irresistible.

A Regal Welcome

Our first stop on this adventure: the Gateway of India. This Indo-Saracenic beauty, built in 1924 to welcome King George V and Queen Mary, now stands as a symbol of Mumbai’s grandeur and resilience. It also serves as a prime spot for dramatic selfies—because what’s a trip without a few Instagram-worthy moments?

Next, we visited the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, India’s first luxury hotel and a true masterpiece of elegance. Not far away, the Royal Opera House stands in all its Baroque and Renaissance glory, a living testament to Mumbai’s artistic legacy.

Of course, all this sightseeing required fuel, and Mumbai did not disappoint. We embarked on a street food adventure that can only be described as life-changing (and mildly spicy). Our indulgences included:

  • Avo Papdi Chaat – Because nothing says fusion like avocado in traditional Indian street food.
  • Vero’s Chilli Cheese Toast – A heavenly mix of crunch, cheese, and just the right amount of heat.
  • Kadhi Samosa Chaat – A glorious mess of crispy samosas drenched in tangy yogurt and spiced gravy.
  • Ponkh Bhel – Puffed goodness mixed with fresh greens and Mumbai magic.
  • “Chhole Bhature” Mezze – Fluffy bread and spicy chickpeas, aka comfort food at its best.
  • Gulab Jamun Churros – Who knew Indian sweets and Spanish churros were a match made in dessert heaven?
  • Canteen’s Rasgulla Tiramisu – Because when you mix Italian decadence with Indian tradition, magic happens.

NTLF 2025: The Future of Tech and Business

After indulging in Mumbai’s culinary wonders, it was time to get down to business. NTLF 2025 brought together some of the brightest minds in AI, data-driven economies, and global capability centers (GCCs). The highlights included:

A City of Contrasts and Charm

Mumbai in 2025 is a city that seamlessly blends heritage with innovation. Whether through its awe-inspiring architecture, vibrant street food culture, or pioneering business ecosystem, Mumbai leaves a lasting impression. As the world gathers here for NTLF 2025, it’s clear that this city is not just keeping up with the future—it’s leading the way. And if we learned anything from this trip, it’s that Mumbai’s magic lies not just in its tech advancements but in its ability to serve up a feast for the senses—both intellectually and gastronomically.
