On July 11, 2024, we hosted an enlightening discussion that focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) titled “Redefining Inclusion: Creating Diverse and Thriving Work Environments” at the John Clements Hub, LKG Tower, Makati City.

Importance of Fostering an Inclusive Workplace

In today’s corporate world, fostering an inclusive workplace is essential for success. A diverse workforce brings unique perspectives and skills that drive innovation and improve problem-solving. Our event aimed to explore strategies, best practices, and insights on redefining inclusion to create diverse and thriving work environments.

Esteemed Speakers and Their Insights

The event featured esteemed speakers Ibrahim “Ibba” Rasul Bernardo, Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Packworks; Mardoni “Don” Arnaez, Integrated Talent Management Manager, People and Culture at JT International, Phils., Inc.; and Michael “Mike” Panlaqui, Country Head of Human Resources at Bayer Philippines, Inc., with moderation by Grace Alcid, Ed.D., Leadership and Development Director at John Clements Consultants, Inc.

Ibba Rasul Bernardo emphasized the importance of diverse hiring practices to bring varied perspectives and innovative solutions to the workplace. He highlighted the role of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) in fostering a sense of belonging and providing a platform for underrepresented groups to voice their concerns and contribute to the organization’s goals. Ibba also discussed how leaders can model inclusive behavior and create an environment where every employee feels valued and included.

Mardoni Arnaez shared JTI’s approach to integrating DEI from recruitment to performance management, ensuring a balanced talent pool while maintaining meritocracy. He emphasized the importance of safe spaces within the organization, supported by various ERGs. Don highlighted JTI’s initiatives to include marginalized individuals in society, providing them equitable job opportunities and educational support.

Michael Panlaqui shared Bayer’s DEI journey, focusing on creating a culture where everyone feels valued and enabled to be their best selves. He discussed the role of Business Resource Groups (BRGs) in promoting inclusion and providing a multicultural lens to Bayer’s engagement with customers and communities. Mike outlined Bayer’s DEI programs, including flexible work schedules, mental health support, and inclusive health benefits.

The event provided attendees with practical approaches to implementing equitable and inclusive workplace policies. Through engaging discussions and interactive sessions, participants gained valuable tools and insights from industry leaders and experts.
