The 11th Youth for Leadership Summit held at La Salle Greenhills was a powerful reminder of what happens when young leaders gather with purpose. As one of the Y4LS Committee members assigned to handle the sound system for the entire program, I had a unique perspective throughout the day, one that allowed me to experience every moment up close, behind the scenes, and fully immersed in the energy of the event.
Starting Strong: Technical Preparations Behind the Scenes
My day began early with technical preparations. From checking microphones, speakers, music cues, and transitions, my goal was clear: make the program feel alive, smooth, and engaging not just for those at the venue, but also for the students joining via livestream across the Philippines. Handling sound may seem simple on the surface, but every segment, every speaker, and every panel requires precision. A slight delay or unclear audio can affect the momentum, so staying alert from start to finish was essential.

Front‑Row Access to Insightful Conversations
Because of my role, I got to listen closely to every speaker and panelist, something I truly appreciated. “Shift + Lead” highlighted innovation and forward-thinking leadership from industry names like Earl Ng (VP of Business Development, Ng Khai), Matthew Tan (Head of Core Business Products, PayMongo), Miguel Macale (Sr. Investment Manager, Ideaspace Ventures) and Denise Fabella (Executive Director, Khan Academy). “Heart + Machine” brought creativity, courage, and authentic leadership to the forefront. The fireside chat offered such refreshing insights from young founders and creatives who are shaping today’s digital and cultural landscape.

Witnessing the Audience’s Energy
One thing I noticed from behind the sound booth was how the audience reacted, moments of laughter, deep thinking, inspiration, and even quiet reflection. Hearing the speakers’ stories while making sure their voices were heard clearly made me feel like I was contributing to the impact they created. It wasn’t just tech work; it felt like supporting a mission.
Fueling the Team: Partners Who Made the Day Brighter
Of course, the experience wouldn’t be complete without appreciating the generosity of our event partners. I enjoyed the snacks from Gardenia and Nutriasia, the thoughtful AVON loot bags, and the lunch from McDonald’s, which kept us energized throughout the busy day. These small comforts made the long hours lighter and definitely added excitement to the summit atmosphere.
A Community United by Leadership
What stood out the most was the sense of community. Seeing hundreds of students, some onsite and many attending through the livestream reminded me that leadership can start anywhere. Whether on stage, behind the sound system, or seated in the audience taking notes, everyone was part of a bigger vision: to prepare the youth for a future shaped by technology, empathy, and innovation.
A Meaningful Role in a Meaningful Summit
Being part of Y4LS 2025 wasn’t just an assignment; it was an experience I’m grateful for. The summit strengthened my appreciation for teamwork, purpose-driven events, and the potential of young leaders nationwide. This year’s Y4LS will stay with me, not just for the insights, but for the role I played in helping bring the entire program to life.
