On August 1, 2025, a historic milestone unfolded at St. Scholastica’s College Manila. The launch of Khanmigo, an AI-powered learning assistant developed by Khan Academy, marked the beginning of a bold transformation in Philippine education. Thanks to the generosity of donor alumnae from batches 1966 to 1982, over 1,200 Scholasticans now have access to personalized, future-ready AI learning tools.
From Tradition to Transformation
The event, held at St. Cecilia’s Hall, blended tradition with innovation. Guests were welcomed with refreshments and guided by student ushers, setting the tone for a day filled with excitement and purpose. As the General Assembly began, the room buzzed with anticipation.
“Benedicite!” rang out as St. Scholastica’s College gradeschool students officially embraced the future. The launch wasn’t just about technology—it was about aligning AI learning with the school’s Benedictine values of Ora et Labora.

Faith Meets Innovation: Sister Rosario’s Opening Message
Sister Rosario R. Obiniana, OSB, SSC’s President, opened the program with a message that blended faith, vision, and purpose. She
emphasized the school’s mission to provide inclusive, future-ready education, now enhanced by AI.
Her words reminded everyone that technology, when guided by values, can deepen learning and expand access—not replace human connection.
Alumnae Power: Carol Dominguez’s Call to Action
One of the most inspiring moments came from Ms. Maria Carolina V. Dominguez, President & CEO of John Clements and a proud Scholastican. Representing the donor alumnae, she shared the story behind the initiative.
“You are growing up in a time of incredible opportunity,” she said. “As digital natives, you already know the power of the internet and technology — and starting today, you’ll have access to Khanmigo, your very own AI-powered learning assistant.”
Ms. Dominguez also recognized the collective effort of 17 alumnae who raised ₱1.616 million, surpassing their target to ensure the program’s sustainability. Their generosity made SSC the first private school in the Philippines to fully integrate Khan Academy tools, including Khanmigo.
What Is Khanmigo?
Developed by Khan Academy, Khanmigo is an AI-powered tutor and teaching assistant designed to support students, teachers, and parents. Unlike generic AI chatbots, Khanmigo is built specifically for education. It helps learners solve math problems, write essays, and even learn new languages—all while encouraging critical thinking.
For teachers, Khanmigo simplifies lesson planning, generates rubrics, and provides real-time support. For students, it’s like having a 24/7 tutor that guides rather than gives answers. And for parents, it turns homework time into a learning opportunity.
Khanmigo is more than a tool—it’s a learning companion that adapts to each user’s needs.
Atty. Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine: The Vision Behind Khan Academy PH
Atty. Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine, CEO of Khan Academy Philippines, delivered a powerful speech about the role of AI in democratizing education.
“Today, we come together to take a bold leap into the future of learning,” she said. “A future where every student has access to personalized, world-class education powered by AI.”
She emphasized that AI learning is not just about technology—it’s about equity, empowerment, and unlocking potential. SSC’s partnership with Khan Academy PH places it at the forefront of a global movement for digital equity.
Sealing the Partnership: MOA and Deed of Donation
The ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between SSC and Khan Academy PH, along with the Deed of Donation from the donor alumnae, formalized a long-term commitment to educational innovation.
This moment wasn’t just symbolic—it was strategic. It ensured that Khanmigo would be sustainably integrated into SSC’s curriculum, benefiting students for years to come.
Khanmigo Goes Live: A Symbolic Activation
With a countdown led by Ms. Lil Dominguez (Chairman of John Clements Consultants, Inc.) Khanmigo was officially activated across the campus. The button press marked the beginning of a new chapter in SSC’s academic journey.

Students, teachers, and donors watched as Khanmigo came to life—ready to assist, guide, and inspire.
A Hands-On Demo: Khanmigo in Action
During the event, donors and Khan Academy leaders interacted with Khanmigo in a live demo. The AI assistant showcased its ability to solve math problems, support writing tasks, and even respond in Tagalog, making it truly student-friendly.
“Together, we Khan do it!” Khanmigo responded during one exchange, capturing the spirit of collaboration and optimism.
A Vision for the Future
Dr. Virginia Fornias, SSC’s VP for Academic Affairs, closed the program with a message of hope and ambition. She emphasized that technology is a tool for deeper learning, not just convenience.
With Khanmigo, SSC is not only enhancing instruction—it’s preparing students for a world where AI is part of everyday life.

Why AI Learning Matters
The launch of Khanmigo at SSC is more than a tech upgrade—it’s a paradigm shift. AI learning empowers students to:
- Learn at their own pace
- Receive personalized feedback
- Build confidence in problem-solving
- Access support anytime, anywhere
For educators, it means more time for meaningful teaching. For institutions, it’s a step toward future-proofing education.
