Staying physically fit today can be challenging, especially if you spend hours doomscrolling on social media or fall into “bedrot”, lying in bed all day watching movies or sleeping. Life can be exhausting, but that shouldn’t stop us from choosing health. I never realized how much AI for health could help until I attended a Learning Bites session facilitated by Ralph Marty, Alek Cayabyab, and Keven Guanco of the John Clements Leadership Institute.
Marty’s Transformation: AI and Nutrition
Marty began by sharing his personal health journey. He showed photos of his transformation, explaining how he stayed mindful of fitness even during the pandemic. In just ten months, his body changed significantly. He credited AI for health in structuring his meal routines and preparing food more efficiently. By applying the C.R.A.F.T. method from our prompt engineering session, he got customized guidance tailored to his health needs. Marty emphasized the importance of crafting precise prompts since everyone has different body types and lifestyles. He also mentioned his daily habit of completing 10,000 steps by walking to and from the office.
Nutrition Awareness
Nutrition was another highlight. We often ignore the “Nutrition Facts” labels on food packaging, but the session made us more conscious of them. An icebreaker activity had us guessing calorie counts of various foods, which was both fun and eye-opening. Later, volunteers from the attendees entered their health needs into AI prompts to estimate their maintenance calories, showing how interactive and practical AI for health can be in wellness.
Alek’s Perspective: AI as an Adaptive Coach
Alek followed with a discussion on AI as an adaptive coach. He shared the struggles he faced in his fitness journey—information overload, contradictory advice, burnout, and lack of consistency. AI helped him overcome these by personalizing training approaches and adjusting fitness plans over time. He reminded us that AI can tailor exercise programs to individual levels, since not everyone can start with ten push-ups.
Building Consistency
Consistency, Alek stressed, is key to health. AI can serve as an accountability partner by suggesting habit-building strategies, designing fitness programs around daily schedules, and adapting to available equipment. He also introduced two helpful apps:
- MacroFactor — an AI-powered diet coaching app that uses food logs and weight data to set nutrition targets.
- Habitify — a goal-tracking app that encourages positive routines and habits.

Keven’s Insights: The Psychology of Dieting
Finally, Keven presented on “The Psychology of Dieting.” He shared his inspiring transformation from 98 kilos to his current weight, a journey that took five years of determination and commitment. He clarified the differences between proper diet, fad diets, and fasting:
- Proper diet — focuses on long-term health and balance.
- Fad diets — chase quick results and trends.
- OMAD (One Meal a Day) — a form of intermittent fasting with a narrow eating window.

Common Struggles and AI Solutions
Keven also acknowledged common struggles—lack of time, burnout, stress, and feeling overwhelmed. The good news is that AI for health can help by:
- Creating fitness plans.
- Tracking sleep.
- Simplifying nutrition information.
- Monitoring progress.
Personal Reflection and Takeaway
Personally, I found the session invaluable. I want to lose weight and reduce subcutaneous fat, and the AI prompts and strategies shared gave me fresh ideas for my own fitness journey. Still, it’s important to remember that AI is a tool, not a replacement for professional guidance. Consulting doctors and health experts remains essential. This session reminded me that taking care of my body in my 20s is an investment in a healthier adult life in the years ahead.
