Looking Back at IIS 2025: An Unforgettable Turning Point for the Industry

Last September 23–24, leaders and innovators from across the globe converged at Okada Manila for the IBPAP International Innovation Summit (IIS 2025). Organized by the IT & Business Process Association of the Philippines, this year’s theme — “Rewired for Value: The Global Wake-Up Call” — set the tone for two days of forward-thinking dialogue, collaboration, and inspiration. Now that we’ve had time to look back, it’s clear the summit left a lasting mark on everyone who participated.

One of the biggest highlights was the powerful roster of speakers who brought global perspectives to local opportunities. Martin Wezowski, former Chief Futurist at SAP, challenged the audience to imagine a future where creativity and adaptability define value in the age of AI. Sunil Kumar of Genpact added depth to the automation conversation, emphasizing how companies must redesign roles and capabilities to keep pace with client expectations. Sessions from Jimit Arora (Everest Group), Stanton Jones (ISG), Archana Seshandrinathan (McKinsey Singapore), and Eugene Acevedo (AIM, formerly RCBC) further enriched the discussions with insights on scaling beyond traditional voice-based services and competing in new, high-value domains.

A standout moment was the fireside chat with Ambe Tierro of Accenture, where the conversation moved from theory to lived leadership experience. She offered candid perspectives on navigating transformation at scale, especially as organizations rethink operating models, talent strategies, and the role of innovation in client delivery.

Day Two: Energizing Minds and Fostering Growth

Day 2 also started on a lighter but equally meaningful note. The morning learning sessions mixed fun with insight, offering participants a chance to reset, engage, and absorb fresh ideas in a more interactive format. It set the tone for a day focused not just on where the industry is headed, but on how people can grow with it.

AI: Disruptor, Catalyst, and Opportunity

Throughout the summit, one theme kept resurfacing: AI is both a disruptor and a catalyst. While automation raises real concerns about job displacement, it also opens the door to reskilling, upskilling, and service expansion into areas like fintech support, digital CX, and data analytics. For the Philippines — long recognized as the world’s call center capital — transformation is not optional. To thrive in an AI-powered world, companies must invest in both technology and people. It’s not just about automation — it’s about empowering the workforce to step into roles that machines can’t replicate.

The 2028 Roadmap: A Vision in Motion

The industry’s 2028 roadmap took center stage as well. Since its launch, it has already created 370,000 new jobs and $8.5 billion in additional revenue. By the end of 2024, the IT-BPM workforce had reached 1.82 million, generating $38 billion — a clear sign of resilience and momentum despite rapid global shifts.

A Defining Moment for the Philippines

IIS 2025 didn’t feel like just another conference. It felt like a turning point. The conversations at Okada signaled the shift from labor-driven outsourcing to knowledge- and technology-driven delivery. Through strong collaboration among government, industry, and academia, the Philippines is shaping a new identity. It’s no longer just a service provider. It’s emerging as a hub for innovation, strategic thinking, and high-value expertise.

The Future Is Already Here

The biggest lesson from those two unforgettable days is clear. The future of the IT-BPM industry won’t depend on technology alone. It will belong to those who find the right balance—efficiency, creativity, and human skill working together. That combination is the key. And based on the energy at IIS 2025, the future isn’t just approaching, it’s already unfolding.
