AI in Education: UniEd Transforms PH Learning

On August 11, 2025, UNILAB Education (UniEd)—the education division of United Laboratories, Inc.—was officially launched at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Manila.

Established with the vision of “enabling social mobility through quality education,” UniEd aims to redefine Philippine education. It bridges academic learning with real-world industry needs, especially in STEM, healthcare, and workforce development.

Advancing National Development Goals

During the launch, President Atty. Jose Maria Ochave outlined UniEd’s core mission. It focuses on preparing children for enriching careers, supporting national education objectives, and reducing unemployment and talent mismatches in key sectors.

By investing in industry-ready talent and promoting active academe-industry collaboration, UniEd places itself—and its graduates—at the center of economic transformation.

Building on a Legacy of Innovation

Unilab was founded in 1945 in Binondo, Manila by Jose Yao Campos and Mariano K. Tan. Today, it stands as the Philippines’ largest health product manufacturer.

The company’s legacy is rooted in its core values: excellence (Husay), compassion (Malasakit), and collective effort (Bayanihan). Its enduring mission remains: “Working towards a healthier Philippines, one quality medicine at a time.”

Over the years, Unilab’s products have become household staples. Trusted brands include Biogesic, Ceelin, Neozep, Enervon, Decolgen, Forti-D, Revicon, Medicol, Growee, Solmux, Conzace, ImmunPro, and Alaxan.

Innovations like Medicol Advance and Solmux Advance reflect Unilab’s commitment to quality and continuous improvement. Its manufacturing subsidiaries and robust distribution network demonstrate operational strength and reach.

Responding to Economic Challenges and Workforce Gaps

UniEd’s launch directly addresses a pressing national issue: the mismatch between job opportunities and workforce skills.

Although unemployment rates are low and inflation remains stable, underemployment and educated joblessness persist. Income growth has slowed, and malnutrition continues to erode the country’s human capital.

The event also examined the Philippine economy’s performance compared to ASEAN neighbors. While GDP growth has moderated, the deeper concern lies in the underqualified and malnourished next generation.

Experts like Dr. Cielito Habito emphasized the urgency of strengthening industry-academe linkages. He also highlighted the importance of early childhood nutrition as a foundation for lifelong learning.

Fostering Partnerships for Practical Learning

At the heart of UniEd’s strategy is collaboration. Rather than competing with universities and trade schools, UniEd partners with leading academic institutions.

These include the University of Batangas, University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, Cebu Institute of Technology–University, FEU Pampanga, Baliuag University, Trinity University of Asia, and José Rizal University.

These partnerships prioritize skills-based, practical education tailored to current and emerging workforce needs.

The event showcased two-way exchanges: faculty immersing in industry settings and professionals serving as affiliate lecturers. Input from organizations like EDI-Staffbuilders International and John Clements Consultants ensures alignment with market realities and employer expectations.

Additionally, UniEd’s collaboration with MIT’s RAISE (Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education) introduces global perspectives on AI, digital literacy, and workforce adaptability. These insights equip Filipino learners and educators for the future.

Conclusion: Empowering the Next Generation

Ultimately, UniEd marks Unilab’s evolution—from a healthcare leader to a catalyst for education reform. It empowers future generations with relevant skills, improved opportunities, and access to decent work.

By transforming education, UniEd aims to reshape not only health outcomes but also the very fabric of Filipino society.

The launch of UNILAB Education (UniEd) shows what’s possible when industry and academia join forces to prepare Filipinos for the jobs of tomorrow. At John Clements Consultants, we share this vision—helping organizations bridge skills gaps and connect with the right talent to drive growth and innovation.
