Finding Stillness: Meditation as a Cornerstone of Employee Wellness

“In times of great stress or adversity, it’s always best to keep busy, to plow your anger and your energy into something positive.” — Lee Iacocca

Embracing Wellness Through Meditation

This July, I joined a meditation session hosted by John Clements, part of its ongoing commitment to employee wellness. As someone navigating the daily balance between work and life, I welcomed the opportunity to pause, reflect, and realign. The session forms part of our company’s broader wellness initiative—an intentional step toward fostering emotional and mental resilience among employees.

A Moment to Breathe

From the moment we began, I knew this experience would be different. Tully Moss facilitated the session, and his calming demeanor helped set a gentle and welcoming atmosphere. We started with a prayer, and soon after, many of us began to share our personal prayers and past experiences. I felt moved by how open and honest everyone was. There was a quiet understanding in the room—a collective recognition of how heavy life can get, and how much we all needed a moment of stillness.

Facing Distress with Stillness

We talked about what was currently weighing us down. For me, it was more about personal challenges that had left me feeling overwhelmed. As we moved through the session, Tully guided us into meditation with intentional breathing and gentle reminders: “Inhale calm. Exhale tension.” I found myself letting go of thoughts I didn’t even realize I was holding onto.

Intertwining Prayer and Meditation

What struck me most was how deeply prayer and meditation intertwined. They gave me space to find clarity when everything felt like noise. Learning how to meditate has helped me feel grounded. It’s become my go-to tool for handling stress—not only at work but in everyday life. When anxiety creeps in, this practice brings me back to center.

Science Behind the Stillness

This isn’t just about personal anecdotes. Science backs it up, too. According to Harvard Medical School, mindfulness meditation reduces stress, improves emotional regulation, and boosts focus. It also decreases burnout and improves relationships at work. Therefore, it’s easy to see why meditation is a natural fit for any employee wellness initiative.

A Culture of Care

What stood out wasn’t just the breathing or the silence—it was the sincerity. In that space, I felt supported in a way that went beyond the usual workday rhythm.

At John Clements, employee wellness is more than policy—it’s practiced. This session showed me that care here is real. I’m not saying that because I work here; I’m saying it because I felt it. And in a world where corporate life often feels transactional, that’s something rare—and worth holding on to.

Handling Stress with Meditation

Stress will always be a part of life, but I now feel better equipped to handle it. Meditation reminds me that healing can begin with something as simple as a breath.
