I celebrated my 50th birthday in Singapore from April 14–17, 2025, with my family. It was a promise I made to them for my golden birthday, and despite the high cost of living, we couldn’t resist visiting our favorite country again. Here’s a glimpse into our unforgettable four-day adventure!
Day 1: Arrival and Airport Adventures
First Stop: Changi Airport
The kids were absolutely thrilled with the attractions at Terminal 1. One of the highlights was an automatic photo op with the Jewel Rain Vortex—a stunning new addition since our last visit. They were captivated by the mesmerizing Kinetic Rain sculpture, and the Digital Waterfall left just as strong an impression with its dynamic, high-tech display.
Efficient Train System of Singapore
We were genuinely impressed by Singapore’s efficient and well-connected train system, managing to explore all six lines during our stay. Thanks to the convenient tourist pass, we enjoyed unlimited rides on both buses and trains, which made getting around the city easy and cost-effective—no need for taxis or Grab throughout our trip.
Day 2: Iconic Sights and Sentosa Fun
Merlion Photo Op
We visited the iconic Merlion for the mandatory photo op. Despite multiple visits to Singapore, this trip was the most memorable—not just because of my 50th birthday, but also because of the many new and beautiful places to explore.
Sentosa Attractions
Universal Studios Singapore was a hit with the kids, even under the scorching sun. We also explored the Sentosa beaches via shuttle and had a great time with the Luge and other rides around the island.
Exploring Malls and Cultural Spots
We wandered through Chinatown and Little India, even making a stop at the bustling Mustafa Mall. Another highlight was IMM Mall in Jurong East. At Lucky Plaza, we felt a sense of home, surrounded by familiar sights and many fellow Filipinos working and shopping there.
Day 3: Gardens, Light Shows, and Luxurious Dining
Gardens by the Bay
The Flower Dome and Cloud Forest transported us to Amsterdam and beyond with their stunning floral displays and immersive environments. The shuttle ride around the gardens added to the charm, offering a relaxing way to take in the sights. Capping off the visit was the evening light show at Supertree Grove—a spectacular experience and one of the highlights of our trip.
Marina Bay Sands Resort
We explored the luxurious Marina Bay Sands Resort and enjoyed a special birthday dinner at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
Transportation and Food Experience
Riding the double-decker bus and using the tourist pass for the MRT and buses made getting around incredibly convenient. While the food was delicious, it was pricier than what we’re used to in the Philippines. One challenge we faced was finding rice at fast food places, which was especially tough for one of the kids who craved it with every meal.
Day 4: Farewell, Singapore
We headed back to Changi Terminal 1 for our flight to Manila. While waiting, we explored the attractions at Terminals 1, 2, 3, and 4 via the Skytrain.
Our overall experience was fantastic. Singapore is a beautiful, first-world country with disciplined and hardworking people. I hope the Philippines can transform into a country like Singapore someday.
Our trip to Singapore was a golden celebration filled with laughter, adventure, and cherished memories. Here’s to many more family trips and unforgettable moments!
