In today’s dynamic and fast-evolving business landscape, managers must have the right skills to navigate uncertainty and lead their teams effectively. John Clements Leadership Institute (JCLI) launched the third batch of the New Managers Program (NMP) on February 26, 2025, at the John Clements Hub in Makati City. This program empowers emerging leaders by strengthening their managerial foundations and developing holistic leadership capabilities.
Program Overview
The NMP kicked off with an orientation session for its 25 participants, immediately followed by the first learning session on the same day. Spanning nine weeks, the program provides a structured curriculum designed to develop essential managerial skills. It features a blended learning approach, combining self-paced online modules from the CrossKnowledge Learning Suite—a premier resource for leadership and management development—with interactive case discussions using Harvard Brief Cases. This method immerses participants in real-world scenarios, enhancing their critical thinking and decision-making abilities. To reinforce their learning, participants will apply key concepts to an Action Learning Project, which they will present on the final day of the program.
High-Energy Kickoff
Program Manager Keven Tom Guanco warmly welcomed the Batch 3 learners with an engaging orientation session. He introduced JCLI and its mission to transform workplace environments through training programs and corporate solutions. Kev also provided an overview of the NMP, outlined the house rules for training sessions, and assigned case analysis groups, which will also collaborate on the Action Learning Project presentations. Enthusiasm filled the room as participants completed the orientation, eager to begin their journey with the program’s first session.
Transformative Learning Experience
The first NMP session began with great energy as Dr. Grace Alcid expertly facilitated the class discussion. Participation plays a crucial role in the program, contributing 50% of the learners’ final grades. Sessions follow the Harvard Business School Case Study Method, which challenges participants to analyze real-world business dilemmas, think critically, and engage in thought-provoking discussions.
Before each session, participants receive a case study and must complete their pre-work to bring prepared insights and arguments. The first module focused on understanding the role of a manager, a foundational topic that sets the stage for their leadership journey.
The case study introduced a compelling scenario: a superstar employee whose exceptional performance creates unique management challenges. As the discussion unfolded, the class naturally split into two opposing viewpoints, with each side presenting strong arguments based on their interpretations. The room buzzed with energy as ideas bounced off one another and perspectives evolved in real time.
Dr. Alcid filled two large whiteboards with key takeaways, showcasing the depth and diversity of thought in the room. Despite it being the first session, participants eagerly shared insights, debated strategies, and engaged with enthusiasm. The dynamic discussion set the tone for the program, emphasizing that NMP goes beyond theories—it’s about applying them in real-world managerial scenarios.
Shaping the Future of Leadership
As the New Managers Program progresses, participants will continue honing their leadership and decision-making skills through engaging sessions, case studies, and real-world applications. This structured yet dynamic learning experience equips emerging managers with both theoretical knowledge and the confidence to navigate complex workplace challenges.
The program culminates in the Action Learning Project presentations, where participants showcase their growth and apply their insights in a tangible way. By the end of the journey, they will be well-prepared to lead with agility, think strategically, and take a holistic approach to management—ready to make a lasting impact in their organizations.
