Artificial Intelligence for Business Leaders: Creating Your AI Strategy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a leadership challenge.

Business leaders need to drive AI strategy.

It takes a village to implement AI.

AI will transform how work gets done and who does it.

Generative AI to displace, not replace. As robots threatens more jobs, human skills will save us.

The above-mentioned statements are just some of the learning nuggets captured from one of the insightful sessions of Artificial Intelligence for Business Leaders: Driving Growth, Innovation, and Efficiency. The whole day event was organized by John Clements Consultants, Inc., GMA Network, Inc. and the Northwestern University/Kellogg School of Management Alumni Association of the Philippines with speaker Dr. Mohanbir Sawhney, McCormick Tribune Professor of Technology, Kellogg School of Management, and was held last July 17, 2023 at Dusit Thani Hotel Manila, Makati City.

Dr. Sawhney mentioned that AI is a leadership challenge, and it takes a village to implement AI. An AI-ready organization needs to have a clear AI strategy as it changes the nature of work, the skills needed to perform the work, and the roles needed.

As executives structure the AI initiatives, key questions on the following needs to be addressed: business problems, data, technology, and organizations. Details of which can be found in the photo below:

Another important highlight of session 2 was the Generative AI Canvas. It is the blueprint for AI business cases. Dr. Sawhney walked through the following:

  • Business & Customer Problem
  • Data & Model Management
  • Test & Scale
  • Jobs to be Done
  • Prompt Design & Engineering
  • Change Management
  • Business & Customer Value
  • Rapid Solutioning & Prototyping
  • Risk Mitigation

I am grateful to John Clements for the opportunity to attend this learning session. I believe John Clements achieved the objective to equip business leaders with the knowledge and insights to harness the power of Artificial Intelligence to create business value. The case studies presented were very helpful for the participants to appreciate how AI is being applied, on top of the range of topics that were covered:

  • Session 1: Introduction to AI and Generative AI
  • Session 2: Creating Your AI Strategy
  • Session 3: AI in Marketing, Sales, and Customer Service
  • Session 4: The Future of AI

AI is not computer vs. human, but computer plus human. We know it is an exciting, yet exhausting journey with AI, and it is hard to predict what AI will be in the future as it continuously evolves. Let’s just all be part of the journey with an open mind and welcome AI in our daily lives.
