The Breakthrough Development Program (BDP) of JCCI-EDI is usually the first learning program new employees of the company are able to participate in. The program started in 2014 with the following objectives: 1) to boost personal effectiveness; 2) to develop essential skills to enable the new employee to be successful in his/her new job and career; and 3) to enable the participants to work and learn from and with others in the cohort.
This nine-module program was developed by the John Clements Leadership Institute (JCLI). The program takes a more collaborative approach that leverages multiple models, customized tools, and proven techniques. Our learning model is based on the blended learning approach – a combination of self-directed pre-work and in-person classroom interaction. Session pre-reading materials are built into the customized Cross Knowledge learning platform. Case studies and related articles are used for discussion in each session.
Last Saturday, August 27th, the most recent group of BDP participants graduated. Certificates of Completion were presented by the JCCI-EDI Management Committee. Special awards were given to the following:
- Best Action Learning project: Team Ohana. The project focuses on creating a buddy system within the company to where new employees will be paired with more senior employees to help them transition into the organization.
- Members of the group were Keven Guanco, Melanie Mabules, Hazel Iponla, Kim Colegio and Shannon Porteza
- Best presenter during the ALP presentation: Maricris Silvano
- Best student: Louise Ofreneo
There were a variety of topics presented for the Action Learning projects. One group focused on the advantages of hiring individuals with disabilities. Another group discussed the advantages of going on a plant-based diet — not just for the individual but for our planet as well. For another group, they suggested putting together a welcome package for new employees to foster a sense of belonging within the organization. All the projects are slated to be implemented within the organization during the year.
It was another successful implementation of the program and another group of participants will be undergoing the program next month.
